Gawd almighty. Can’t we all just get along? My generation (yeah The Who’s too) have proven no better than any other it seems. What (tiny) individual American voters have bestowed/bequeathed on us all…

Keep up the good fight! Commentary and imaging.

dear matt,

this is a great piece! excellent cartoons and thoughtful commentary!

this makes a lot of sense: "The Purge series is maybe the most overtly political films of the 2010s, ones that explain the rise of fascism, display its consequences starkly, and do not muddle their message or politics. It depicts and celebrates the violent on-screen slaughter of a fascist elite! Yet it also somehow ducked the 2010s culture wars, where everything was evaluated for its woke/anti-woke properties and dropped into “good” and “bad” buckets to argue about online with strangers."

thanks for sharing!

much love

Huh, from the ads I assumed the Purge movies were just horror movies with violent home invasions and the like. I might check one out now. American War was really well done, I picked it up after seeing the author host a Q&A of another author at my workplace. (Not really a 'fun' read though.)

The first Purge is more of a home invasion movie with only hints of the broader world. Then in the sequels they really go for it.

Thanks for another great newsletter! I, too, am a sucker for worldbuilding. XD I’ll have to check out American War. Have you read Everything for Everyone: An Oral History of the New York Commune, 2052-2072?

The guy (Biden) is in his 80’s, had a cold and tired from touring the world, running the country (excellently by the way) - and it was after 9PM - How sharp are you in similar situation? He’s still coherent and answered the questions in his own time with real honest informed answers unlike the liar traitor crook next to him. So tell me genius - who can beat Trump 5 months out? Just stop this BS and focus on Dems winning this election because otherwise Democracy is over - for real!

I think Kamala Harris can beat Trump months out, which is the normal length of elections in other countries.
