Absolutely fantastic screentone work on the No-Face piece. The way those halftones build up the shadow depth while keeping that eerie emptiness to the character shows a real understanding of what made Miyazaki's orginal design so unsettling. I tried working with physical tones years back and it's way harder than people think to get those transitions smooth without overworking it. The decision to stick with bristol was smart too since it takes ink weight better than most surfaces.
Thank you! Upon watching it again, I was struck by the black shape inside of the transparent black cloak-type look and immediately thought that gradient screentone might be able to replicate it.
I plan to get around southwestern Ontario a bit this year, as I have a couple new launches and collections coming out. Nothing set, but I will surely be in Toronto at some point and hopefully Hamilton.
