I Never Said To Do Political Assassination
I would rather you read the first full issue of Justice Warriors: Vote Harder
I have never said to do political assassination. I’m not saying anyone should. I do think people try it sometimes, frustrated as they are with the direction of things, and that is their choice. That’s got nothing to do with me. I’m minding my own business over here.
Sometimes the authorities don’t mind their own business. They infiltrate political movements, undermine them, entrap, surveil, and arrest their members. Sometimes they may even push events toward violence, set people up, or outright kill them! Woof. Seems like the state gets to readily utilize violence to further its own ends.
These forces were on my mind as I co-wrote Justice Warriors: Vote Harder with Ben Clarkson, our graphic novel exploring electoralism and political violence. There is a romanticism around both concepts—and hard limits to what they can achieve.
Justice Warriors is a dystopian satire that follows cops Swamp and Schitt, mutants who police the Uninhabited Zone outside of Bubble City. Bubble City is perfect: diverse and safe with clean drugs and low-interest rates. Outside of its enviro-shield is Uninhabited Zone, or the UZ, an endless slum packed with millions of desperate mutants who are low on hope and high on SuperBake.
In Vote Harder, the second volume in the series, they will attempt to hold an election—their first election—to decide who will lead the city out of ruin. Democratically, of course.
Below, you can read the entire first issue of Justice Warriors: Vote Harder.
Normally I wouldn't do this, but I want more people to read this comic so we can make more of them. Ben Clarkson and I have many more Justice Warriors stories we want to tell. So if you like it, I promise you’ll love the rest of the story. You can order the full graphic novel here along with volume 1. Vote with your dollar. Shore up the economy. If you are not subscribed to this newsletter yet, definitely solve for that. And please, don’t do anything rash.
OMG! Matt thank you. Through and through this is fantastic work!
